La Scuola International School Opening Preschool-Grade 8 Campus in East Palo Alto

La Scuola International School is excited to announce the expansion of its unique blend of Reggio Emilia, Language Immersion, and International Baccalaureate program with the opening of La Scuola Peninsula, a Preschool Early Childhood campus in East Palo Alto.

La Scuola Peninsula will open with preschool classes in January 2022, and continue to expand through Grade 8. La Scuola has signed a five-year lease with the Ravenswood School District to occupy three buildings, previously leased by The Primary School, located at 2086 Clarke Ave, East Palo Alto. The launch and the development of this campus are made possible through the gifts of a generous donor and friend of La Scuola, who wishes
to remain anonymous.
“For many years, our Board of Directors has studied the feasibility of launching a La Scuola satellite campus in the Peninsula, and this is the right time to expand,” said Lama Nachman and Loring Sagan, Co-Chairs of the Board of Directors. “We are very grateful to our donors for investing in La Scuola education that inspires learners to change the world.
We believe that by accommodating expressed demand from families on the Peninsula, La Scuola enhances it’s long-term viability by broadening our demographic base.”
Valentina Imbeni, Ph.D., La Scuola’s Head of School, and members of her Leadership and Administrative teams, will be leading the campus expansion, with the help of a site director and support team to manage day-to-day operations. The La Scuola Board of Directors will have governance and fiduciary responsibility and accountability of the new campus. Our ongoing partnership with Reggio Children also uniquely positions us to
support the expansion of Reggio Emilia and the high-quality education from world-class teachers that La Scuola families have come to know and expect.

“This past year has proven the importance of La Scuola’s approach
to education. At La Scuola, we place the child at the center of the learning
experience. We value relationships with all of our constituents, children,
families and our surrounding communities,” Imbeni said.
“Expanding to the Peninsula allows more children and families to benefit
and thrive in a Reggio Emilia-inspired education and will enhance the
experiences of our program for students and families.”
La Scuola is grateful for the extraordinary partnership and support of the Italian Consul General in San Francisco, Lorenzo Ortona, who always believed in this expansion. La Scuola’s San Francisco campus will remain the primary location as work begins this summer to expand the Mission Campus to all Kinder – Grade 8 students.

“The Italian Consulate General in San Francisco has supported the expansion of La Scuola in Silicon Valley for a long time. We are so proud that we can finally announce this new home for the teaching of Italian culture and language with the extraordinary Reggio Emilia educational approach,” said Lorenzo Ortona, Italian Consul General in San Francisco. “We are confident that many children will benefit from this qualified approach and we cannot wait to see La Scuola Peninsula grow in the years to come.
Congratulations to Valentina Imbeni, Head of School, the Board of Directors, and all the faculty and staff for this great achievement.”

La Scuola is a community where diverse backgrounds, points of view and experiences are honored and serve to create global citizens who are learners, creators, and innovators. Diverse points of view are fundamental in shaping a global point of view. By emphasizing inclusion and equity, our aim is to foster a community from the multiple voices that make up our students, staff, families and friends. By celebrating diversity, our students become keenly aware of the world around them, their place in it, and the wisdom of honoring the experiences of others. The breadth of La Scuola’s diverse local and global community is the foundation of the school experience.
La Scuola’s community comes from a wide range of backgrounds with over 34 languages spoken. Language immersion has countless cognitive benefits for children and is proven to have a significant impact on educational success, attention, decision-making and overall happiness. Teachers create learning experiences based on students’ interests, questions and passions within the rigorous International Baccalaureate curriculum framework and the Reggio Emilia-inspired pedagogy. La Scuola students are well prepared academically and have a unique love of learning, inquiry, and attend the most selective high-schools in the Bay Area. La Scuola fosters an appreciation for joy and beauty, and the campuses and programs stimulate
all of the senses, inspire an appreciation for food, music, culture and the joy of spending time with friends and community.

Every day, it’s the students at La Scuola who ask the most challenging questions. They lead—and embrace—their own ability to learn across languages, across cultures, and across subjects. Because when children are open to the world and protagonists in their own education, there’s no limit to their ability to learn, find beauty in life, and discover extraordinary answers. Founded in 2002, La Scuola has two campuses in San Francisco
located in the Dogpatch (Preschool) and Mission (K-8) neighborhoods. La Scuola is accredited by the International Baccalaureate, the California Association of Independent Schools and recognized by the Italian Ministry of Education as a “Scuola Paritaria.”
